SMOKED TRI TIP RECIPE

 

This Smoked Tri Tip is an easy and impressive main course that’s great for feeding a crowd!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Tri Tip Roast
  • 3 tablespoons brisket rub or Montreal Steak Seasoning

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Season the tri tip with the rub and allow the rub to melt into the meat for one hour.
  2. Set your pellet grill to the Smoke Setting.
  3. Smoke the tri tip on "Smoke" for one hour.
  4. Raise the temperature of the pellet grill to 250°F.
  5. Cook another 30-45 minutes until an internal temperature of 130°F is reached.
  6. Remove the tri tip from the smoker and allow it to rest for 30 minutes.
  7. Slice the tri tip across the grain while watching for the shifting grain structure.

    Smoked this last Sunday. I got my Tri Tip from a butcher shop and it had a thick fat cap on one side (like a brisket). It was the biggest one I had ever done. On the meat side I make several slits and stick a crushed clove of garlic in each. Smoked it with the fat cap up and added a little more time to the smoking and it took about an hour to get 130F. This was the best Tri Tip I have ever done!
